Mellor Art Society is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025 and going from strength to strength!

Mellor Art Society

Members meet at 7pm on Wednesday evenings at St. Martin’s Church Hall in Marple Bridge.

It is a friendly environment which welcomes newcomers of all abilities.

Artists use watercolours, acrylics, pastels, pencils, charcoal, and silk paints.

The society was established at Mellor Church in the hills above Marple because the existing art group in the area had a long waiting list.

It was then decided to move to the current venue next to Marple railway station as it is easier to access by public transport, car or on foot.

The amount of space in the church hall means membership is restricted to fifty and there is now a waiting list.

There is an annual membership subscription but then attendance at the weekly meetings is free of charge.

There are own work nights, member-led workshops and in the summer months there are outdoor painting sessions, making the most of the beautiful parks, canals and buildings in the area.

The Society has demonstrations by professional artists about once a month.

There are exchange visits with other local art groups and members get involved in several community events, including workshops for children at a local school.

Founder member Bill Hague said: “the society has thrived due to the friendliness of the members, the venue itself and the dedication of its leaders. There are exceptionally good artists who are willing to nurture the talents of other members."
