Welcome to the Marple Website

Congratulations to MarpleFest after securing an £8k grant towards Festoon Lighting!

In December 2023 - after a social media poll confirmed support for the idea - the MarpleFest team launched a campaign to raise £20k to make the most of our thriving night time economy and present Marple in a better light (excuse the pun) by installing festoon lighting in Marple precinct. The lighting is proposed to run for the full length of Market Street and Derby Way in the main town centre.

MarpleFest Festoon Lights

The aim is to support our developing cafe and bar culture and make everything that happens in Marple town centre as enjoyable as possible. Festoon Lighting will make regular events on Market Street and Derby Way so much better, not to mention enhancing security and safety in the precinct throughout the year as we enjoy supporting our local businesses.

Who are MarpleFest?

MarpleFest is a small but dedicated team of volunteers first formed to organise a special Marple celebration for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. The street party they organised was such a success that the non-profit making group has stayed together and continued to do their best to help the community celebrate with regular events at Easter, Summer and Christmas.

Here's a selection of photos from the Platinum Jubilee Street Party that kicked things off in June 2022

MarpleFest are chuffed they've secured this money for our community!

The MarpleFest team has pushed tirelessly for funding and were pleased to announce in January 2024 that they were awarded a Grant from The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) of £8,000 towards the project. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is a central pillar of the UK government's Levelling Up agenda and its purpose is to provide £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.

Can you help MarpleFest achieve that £20k target?

With the £8k UKSPF Award added to the funds donated by the local community since December, the team are almost halfway to their goal already. The MarpleFest team will continue seeking funding for the project wherever they can and hope that their fantastic success so far will encourage more support from within our local community too.

Please consider a donation and help them push towards their goal!

The Marple Website is proud to have donated £100 from the web site's advertising income already.

If you are one of our fabulous businesses from the Marple area, please consider a donation too - especially if it will benefit you.

For those of the community who have donated so far, or are considering making a donation in the coming weeks and months...

Thank you!

Please donate if you can and share this link:
