We held the first of what is hoped to be an annual event – a Public Speaking Competition for local schools. The competition was split into 3 categories – Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors. Schools could enter several teams for each category and held eliminating rounds at their own school. The winners from each school went through to a final which was held at Chapel-en-le-frith Golf Club.
The final for our first Public Speaking Competition will take place on Tuesday 13th March at Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club. The finalists will include Junior, Intermediate and Senior sections with topics covering The Ocean’s Plight, The Definition of Normal, The Art of Living in the Here and Now and Dependence on Technology is Making Humanity less Intelligent. Good luck to all the finalists.
This is the first year that we are organising a Public Speaking competition for children ranging from 9 years old to 16 and New Mills Primary School, Chapel-en-le-Frith High School, Marple Hall and Thomas Moore, Buxton have entered in the different age categories. We hope to make this an annual event and if any schools are interested please get in touch so that we can note your interest for next year’s competition.
During the few months leading up to Christmas a few members were busy building a new Father Christmas sleigh in readiness for our annual Christmas collections. The beginning of December saw members erecting the Nativity Crib in New Mills. It was great to see families looking at the figures in the crib and the story of Christmas being explained to the children.
