Mellor Mill from the rear
A similar shot from the rear of Mellor Mill but with a very smart gentleman. The mill manager perhaps?

Noel Brindley: An account from 1835 of the earnings (shillings and pence), per week, of the Peddor family of Bedfordshire, at Clayton's Mellor Mill: Mr Philip Peddor earns as a farm labourer 12s, his wife at the factory 5s, Mary, aged 19, is deformed and feeble; she keeps the house clean, cooks the meals, and employs her leisure in picking cotton, by which she can now earn 1s per week, but when she has acquired more skill will be able to earn more. Sarah aged 19 works in the factory and earns 5s, Thomas aged 14, earns 4s 6d, Betsy, aged 9, earns 2s 6d. Total earnings of family, 30 shillings per week. The family were nearly starved in Bedfordshire, but all the family have plenty to eat and drink here. Mr Peddor says he would "rather cross the sea than go back into Bedfordshire".
