Market Street: Exchange Buildings

This photo is very interesting: Note that there are clearly only 4 properties in the whole terrace with the "Exchange Buildings 1904" plaque in the centre of the 4. Today, and in our later picture, it is twice as long with a total of 8 properties. It is clear from these two images and examination of finer details of the building today that it was built in two halves. This is why the "Exchange Buildings 1904" plaque is in the centre of the first 4 and not the centre of the whole building. In this image it does look like the brickwork is keyed along the front edge of the building ready to accept the second half but in the meantime there is a pop-up butcher in the space!
