Marple Naturalists

Discover more of the wonders of nature at the Marple Naturalists meetings on the first Wednesday of the month starting in September at 8pm

Meetings are held in the United Reformed Church, Hibbert Lane Marple. Non members are welcome to attend by paying £5 on arrival.

We are fortunate in Marple to be situated in an area rich in natural history, with habitats ranging from open moorland and woodland to river valleys. Human activity has provided an even greater variety of habitats by the construction of canals and mining, quarrying, farming, industrial and domestic developments.

The Marple Naturalists group was established FIFTY-FOUR years ago to provide a friendly and informal focus for people who want to share their love of nature in all of its forms and are eager to discover more about the endless varieties of plants, insects, birds and all manner of wildlife and other aspects of the natural history of our world.

Observing and recording our plentiful local plant, animal, bird and insect life and how they interact with one another is a shared interest which naturally leads on to encouraging conservation and improvement of our natural environment. This is achieved by means of arranged walks and excursions to local sites of natural history interest and to some which are further afield. Through liaison with other bodies we are able to influence and contribute to conservation efforts in our local and the wider area.

Throughout the pandemic and beyond, we have been very fortunate to have a dedicated committee who ensure that we continue to enjoy our monthly meetings. Marple Naturalists also share their meetings with local groups like the High Peak RSPB where we invite each other to our meetings which can result in bigger audiences for each group and lively contributions from across the groups.

We have an exciting new Autumn 2022 to Spring/Summer 2023 programme on offer that you can download and you can also view the dates in The Marple Website Events Calendar too.

Membership fee £25 per annum. Children under 16 free.
